The Opportunity
Do you want to make an impact in shaping how current and future generations understand food, farming, and the countryside? Join us at the Food and Farming Discovery Trust (FFDT), a small educational charity dedicated to increasing awareness of food production, farming, and land-based careers. We are looking for an enthusiastic Communications Assistant to support the Trust Manager at our Norfolk Showground office near Norwich. This role will involve content creation, social media management, photography, and videography to help promote and report on our work.
About Us
FFDT is a charity focused on educating young people about food, farming, and the countryside in Norfolk. Through innovative programs and events, we engage students of all ages and provide hands-on learning about farming, food production, and agricultural careers.
- Learn about Livestock: A hands-on program for primary schools to experience animal husbandry by caring for a ewe and her lambs.
- Discovery Zone: A STEMM-focused educational hub at the Royal Norfolk Show, welcoming over 12,000 children in 2024 to learn about food and farming.
- Food Security Conference: A free conference for up to 300 Sixth Form and College students throughout Norfolk to discuss issues facing Food Security in the UK.

The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Creating and distributing digital and print resources to promote the Trust’s work.
- Scheduling and posting content across social media platforms and the FFDT website.
- Capturing event/project photos and creating video content.
- Monitoring social media analytics and tracking trends.
- Managing FFDT’s digital newsletter and mailing list.
- Providing administrative support, including event coordination, invitations, and evaluations.
- Assisting with the planning and delivery of educational content for events, including the Royal Norfolk Show.
- Developing relationships with schools, colleges, farmers, and agricultural organisations.
- Preparing presentations and reports.
- Taking on additional tasks as needed by the organisation.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Undergo an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
- Complete safeguarding training as part of the role.
- Have the legal right to work in the UK.

Person specification
Essential
- Grade 4–9 / A-C or equivalent in English and Maths GCSE.
- Full clean driver’s license and access to your own vehicle.
- Previous administrative experience.
- Experience with MS Word and general software packages.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven photography and videography experience, preferably in a professional or project-based setting.
- A portfolio showcasing photography and video projects.
Desirable
- Experience with Canva or Adobe InDesign.
- Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) and Google Analytics.
- Experience working with young people.
- A knowledge of safeguarding.
- Interest in agriculture.
- Proficiency in editing software like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro.
- Understanding of social media strategies.
- Proofreading and preparing marketing/website copy.

Hours
This is a part-time role, requiring 21 hours per week (3 days). Standard hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional evening or weekend work; time off in lieu will be given for any additional hours worked. This is an office-based role, but a flexible working pattern and occasional remote working may be considered for the right candidate, where necessary or appropriate.
Salary
£26,600 – £30,000 per annum, dependent on experience (pro-rata for 21 hours per week, actual £16,000 – £18,000).

Based at the Norfolk Showground, Dereham Road, Costessey, Norwich, NR5 0TT.
