The Aylsham Show celebrates 75 years!

This year marked the 75th anniversairy of the Aylsham Show and we were thrilled to take part in the Food, Farming and Countryside Zone which was full of exciting, interactive activities for visitors to take part in. The Show is held at Blickling Estate and this year more than 15,000 people attended the event!

We were joined by the brilliant LEAF Education to teach our visitors more about Super Soils and Wonderful Worms! Visitors had the chance to take a look in our wormery, have a go at some microscopy to see the inside of an earthworm and even to create their own pot and plant a seed to take home.

Soil is so important to life on Earth, it allows us to grow food and is home to billions of organisms. Earthworms are just one organism that calls soil home and earthworms are a really good indicator of healthy soils. Earthworms are really important for our soils, they increase nutrient availability, lead to better drainage, and help to create a more stable soil structure. 95% of the food we produce relies on soil, so it is really important we take good care of our soils and that is the message we wanted our visitors to take away with them.

Did you know… there are more living organisms in 1 teaspoon of healthy soil than there are people on Earth!

If you’re still curious to find out more about super soils and wonderful worms then why not head over to the British Society of Soil Science‘s website and take a look at their exciting, free resources.

The Aylsham Show will return Monday 26th August 2024!
