Open Farm Sunday 2023

Open Farm Sunday gives visitors a chance to see British Farming first-hand!

LEAF’s annual Open Farm Sunday event took place on 11th June and the Food & Farming Discovery Trust were at Holkham Estate for the occasion! Open Farm Sunday offers a unique opportunity for visitors to see farming first hand, learning more about how their food is produced and how farmers work as custodians of the countryside.

At Holkham there was so much to see and do with all of the land-based teams showcasing the brilliant farming, conservation and gardening work they do across the estate, as well as stands from many other exhibitors including Compassion in World Farming. Visitors had the opportunity to take a tractor trailer tour of the estaet to learn about all the crops grown at Holkham, from members of the Holkham Farming Company.

We were present in the Food & Farming Discovery Trust mobile classroom with a host of activities to take part in, allowing visitors to learn more about local produce, food miles and seasonality. There was the opportunity to sort some common food items by their food miles, with answers that surprised many visitors, a fun quiz to take part in about british farming and even the chance to find out which common foods come from

A huge thank you to Holkham Estate for hosting us and to our volunteers that helped with the running of the event. LEAF Open Farm Sunday will return on Sunday 9th June 2024!
